The USI (Unique Student Identifier) is required for all VET level students receiving nationally recognised training to comply with Government reporting requirements. The USI is an initiative of the Australian Government to ensure that students are able to access their student records even if providers cease to trade.

Assumptions

  • The User has access to Paradigm.
  • The User has the minimum required level to edit a record.
  • The student record has already been created.
  • An understanding of Australian Tertiary Sector / VET Sector
  • Paradigm has been connected via API to the Governments USI database
  • The User has the required identification  / Certificates from the student to be sufficiently identified. 
        These include:
        * Australian Birth Certificate
        * Certificate of Registration by Descent
        * Australian Citizenship Certificate
        * Australian Drivers Licence
        * Medicare Care
        * Australian Passsport
        * Visa (with non Australian Passport)
        * ImmiCard

NOTE:

The instructions below assume that as a Provider you have already obtained an M2M key in order to enable Paradigm to gain access to the USI service.

  1. Load the student's record

1.3 Click  the USI Edit option on the Side Menu

1.4 Check the pre-completed details from the students record

1.5 Select the Document type being used to verify the student's identity

1.6  Enter the addition information required to verify the document type you are using

1.7 Click the Save USI detail button

1.8 Click the Request USI Button

1.9 The Students USI has now been allocated / received

1.10 Click on the Edit details option on the side menu

1.11 Click on the date picker next to the USI Verified date to select the date of verification

  2. Move down the side menu and click the USI Edit option and check the details of the student record.

  3. Only two fields USI Student Number and Given Names are editable, the remaining fields are read-only.

  4. Click the Verify USI button to verify the student’s USI.

NOTE:

The system not only verifies the USI number but also crosses check other fields: student’s Given Name, Family Name, and DOB to see if any of them is matching the USI number on the USI service website.

6. You will see either Success or Error responses as below:

If it’s verified, you will see a green successful message at the top of the screen.

 You will see a red error message against each invalid field that the government could not verify.
