Overview

The Student Academic Summary page will show you all the units enrolled by a student, each with a unit grade, description, published grade, credit points earned, credit points, and grade points information. A summary below all the unit academic records will also be shown with the calculated Grade Point Average (GPA). This knowledge article will give you a sample grade calculation and how to load the student academic summary.

Key Terms and Concepts

A. Calculating Grade Point Average (GPA)

The acronym GPA stands for grade point average, which in turn requires the allocation of grade points to each unit enrolment outcome. Specifically, this involves allocating a grade point value (e.g. 5) to a specific letter score (e.g. credit). Australian providers differ on the exact grade point scale to use, but the process is always the same.

Paradigm implements GPA in a way that reflects industry practice. As per the above link institutions may define their own GPA scale by adding the relevant information to the grade schema defined in the interface under SYSTEM > Search Grade Type.

We expect providers to assign a GPA value to fail and fail equivalent grades.

Published Grade	The grade published to the student for the unit of study. This may differ to the Grade description if the unit is moderated, or graded on the curve or if the grade is withheld due to non-payment of fees or academic misconduct
Credit Points Earned	The number of pointed earned towards the required course total upon successful completion of the unit of study	6.0 4.5
Unit Credit points	The number of points that the student can earn upon successful completion of the unit of study	6.0 4.5
Grade Points	The number of points that this unit contributes to the Students Grade point average	4.0

How to load the Student Academic Summary

HOW TO Load the Student Academic Summary

In the side menu click on the Student tab.
Click on the Search option
Enter one of the following options in to the relevant search box: Student Number, Student's Family Name / Surname
Click on the Search Student Button
This will return a list of students that meet the above criteria
To further filter the search results, in the search box above the list of results, start typing the student's Given Name or Family Name.
When you find the record you are looking for, click on the Student No field, highlighted as a blue link at the left side of the row.
The Summary page of the student's record is now shown.
Scroll down to the Courses enrolled by student section
Click on the Action button on the right hand side of the required course.
The Action menu will open
Click on the Academic Summary Option
The page has now loaded.
